PAC UNIVERSITY'S SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCE HOLDS A CYBER SECURITY PUBLIC LECTURE FOR BOTH STAFF AND STUDENTS.
PAC University’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences held a cyber
security public lecture for both students and staff on March 6, 2024, at the
University Chapel. The public lecture was to teach both students and staff how
to confront cyber insecurity in Kenya. The speaker, Justice David Mugo, Mwangi,
explained the role of the government in controlling the use of technology and
computer systems covered in the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act of 2018.
The speaker, Justice David Mwangi, explained that the government faces
challenges in confronting cyber security due to the speed of technology and the
fact that technology is global, hence no boundaries. Justice Mwangi encouraged
students to take courses on cyber security as Kenya suffers from the challenge
of trained personnel in the Kenya police force in the field of cyber security.
Justice Mwangi highlighted that the best way to confront cyberbullying in
Kenya is by having global cooperation through conventional laws with
neighboring countries, where Kenya will be signed in and bound by the
provisions of the conventions to overcome the challenge of boundaries in cyber
security laws in different countries. Justice David added that Kenya should
have a 24-hour real-time station that will deal with cyberbullying issues ONLY.
Justice David gave cyber security hygiene, which includes using a secure
password, updating your software regularly, and avoiding open WiFi networks,
among others.
